¶ Kick-off
The redesign of BPER financial app is focused and based on the new PSD2 capabilities – from strategy to product. But, what is this PSD2? It's the acronym of "Payment Service Directive 2", which regulates the use of account data to improve market competition, generating new opportunities for financial institutes.
BPER contacted Fjord work on creating differentiating services to improve their market position. Through a design-led strategy approach, we observed real users to discover unmet needs and transform them into opportunities.
The developed concept offers simple PFM functionalities in a family view, displaying all financial products the users could possibly have – from managing each account and setting budgets, to teaching children to handle money and forecasting payment deadlines.
MY CONTRIBUTION
I joined the design team just after the research phase, partecipating both in the initial concept proposals and the detailed design of the chosen concept. For the selected concept I took part in the UX decisions and I was in charge to take care of the visual side of the main screens, key flows, and design library.
NAVIGATION
Swipe the main card to go to the next section
We opted for very simplified navigation: the user can move between the different sections by merely swiping from right to left on the main big card below the header.
A a result, he'll move from the initial dashboard – a collection of the most valuable info from every section –, to "Your money", "Your family", "Your expenses" and "Your projects". The menu, instead, is reachable through the hamburger icon.
"YOUR MONEY" SECTION
All your financial products within
"Your money" section is the most important one: here, the user can aggregrate all his financial product (bank or saving accounts, all kids of cards, investments, etc) information from each account he has. This way, he can get a complete view of his money and safely manage it globally.

"YOUR FAMILY" SECTION
Manage your family's money
In this section the user can manage the financial products shared with other family members (partner, kids, parents and so on), in order to get an overall view of his family's situation.
Each family member chooses which account and information they would like to share in a totally safe way. Admin privileges and privacy level are fully customizable for each member, for example the user's children will have a different setup compared to themself.

"YOUR EXPENSES" & "YOUR PROJECTS" SECTIONS
Keep track of your expenses and savings
In "Your expenses" section the user can check all his expenses divided into different catergories and if a payment deadline is upcoming.
In "Your projects" section the user will see his goals in progress (saving money for a specific activity or thing to buy, for example a new car), set budgets for expense categories (e.g. don't spend more than 100€ per month in clothes) and create/monitor money collections (e.g. the user bought a birthday present for his kid's classmate and he has to be paid back from the other parents).

HELPFUL TOOLS
Keep everything under control
Other important tools within the app are the due-date register – where the user can keep track of all kinds of payment deadlines (e.g. bills, taxes, duties, registrations, etc) – and the money collection – where the user can check if he still owes someone, or his status on any reimbursements.

BPER was the first project that I made for Fjord Milan. Thanks to a wonderful team, within just a few weeks I felt right at home. It was great to experience the studio-life again, with a bigger team than I had used with Frog.
I really enjoyed designing this project, and it's still my most satisfying work at Fjord: the navigation model and the visual side are very original compared to the typical bottom navigation with the traditional somber color palette. It is instead a unique product, where the brand speaks for itself.
Unfortunately, the project never took flight, leaving it in the concept stage – yep, very sad story and very sad Stefania!
