While collaborating with the "Digital Team of Italian Governement",  I helped them design a website for a new service that allows citizens to communicate with Public Administrations utilizing certified emails.

I imagine that – naturally – a question comes to mind: what the f**k is certifed email? Certified email is a special type of email used in Italy (of course ?), Switzerland, Hong Kong, and Germany. Certified email is meant to provide the legal equivalent to traditional registered mail: by paying a small fee, users are able to legally prove that any given email has been sent and received.

So, "Domicilio Digitale" (aka "Digital Residence") is a service which allows citizens to receive online communications from Public Administrations through a certified email address, chosen by the user, providing a legal email service.

MY CONTRIBUTION

Being the solo-designer on this project, I was in charge of both UX and UI. Regarding the visual side, the only requirement was to use the Italian UI Kit, with the goal of maintaining consistency across different projects related to the "Digital Team of the Italian Government".

Since the content and the service itself was quite simple, I decided to design some illustrations to enrich the experience, making it a bit more recognizable.

Respecting the "Italia UI kit"

Typography, color palette, and grid system follow the guidelines described by the "Italia UI kit", which I helped the team define as well. The blue tones are a key presence throughout the website, while the typography is based on "Titillium" for titles, and "Lora" for bodycopy. The grid system used is based on the Bootstrap's one.

Introducing a new service

Due to there simply not being enough content to necessitate multiple pages, I opted for a one-page website to quickly and easily communicate the service's mission and features.

"Domicilio digitale" is first introduced as a service for citizens, tempting them with juicy benefits. Next, a search area, followed by a dedicated area displaying the pros of Public Administration. Finally, the page concludes with an FAQ section including contact numbers.

Each "Domicilio Digitale" added to the system can be found, becoming public information. Everyone – both citizens and Public Administrations – can find a particular certified email belonging to particular subscribed user, and write to that address.

In the post-login area, the user can edit and manage the selected certified email in use as their "Domicilio Digitale". They can also check their certified email history (and reactivate them), and their personal data.

ILLUSTRATIONS

Let's please the eye!

Let's be honest: this service is all about bureaucracy, so it's not really an enjoyable service. Indeed, I thought to add some "life" by including illustrations which serve two purposes: to catch the eye and to create recognizable elements of the service.
